Following Da Nang, the localities with the highest tourism competitiveness are Quang Ninh, Khanh Hoa, Quang Nam... Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City are in 6th and 8th positions, respectively. In which, Hanoi is ranked highest for cultural resources, Lam Dong is highest for natural resources, and Quang Nam is ranked first in terms of price competitiveness.
Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Nam province Nguyen Thanh Hong and Deputy Director of the Danang Department of Tourism Nguyen Xuan Binh said that the results of the index are objective and consistent with the current situation. Representatives of the local tourism industry said that they will rely on that to self-assess and improve their competitiveness in the coming time. In addition, they propose to have more evaluation criteria on the ability to link between localities.
Mr. Tran Trong Kien, Chairman of TAB, said that the set of indicators assessing localities contribute to improving the competitiveness of Vietnam's tourism, reaching the 50th position in the world in the next 2-3 years. He said the index is important when attracting "big guys" in the tourism industry to invest.
The Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism said that the 15 localities that have been piloted with the index are the "leading birds" in the tourism industry. Through this result, localities need to look at themselves to come up with solutions to increase the attractiveness of the destination in the coming time.
The project to build the Vietnam Provincial Tourism Destination Competitiveness Index (VTCI) is funded by the Delegation of the European Union to Vietnam and provides technical support to TAB from 2019. From 2022, VTCI was handed over to TAB and the Private Economic Development Research Board (Board IV) to create an objective and effective evaluation channel for localities.
