Kingdom of Temples

“Cambodia pairs the colossal temples of Angkor with a gentle, resilient culture. Sunrise over Angkor Wat, floating villages on the Tonle Sap, colonial Phnom Penh and the quiet southern coast reward travellers who slow down and travel privately.”

Cambodia Travel Essentials & Insights

Expand each guide for detailed information on entry regulations, regional weather, local gastronomy, health, and preparation advice.

Passport and visa

Most visitors need a passport valid for six months beyond arrival. A tourist e-visa is available online for most nationalities and visas are also issued on arrival; we confirm the best route for your passport when we draft your proposal.

Currency

The riel (KHR) is the local currency, but US dollars are used for most tourist transactions and ATMs dispense USD. Carry small, crisp notes for tips and village visits; change under the equivalent of one dollar is usually given in riel.

Phones & Internet service

4G coverage is reliable in Siem Reap, Phnom Penh and the coast. Local SIM cards or eSIMs are inexpensive and can be arranged by your concierge on arrival.

Weather

Cambodia is tropical: dry and coolest from November to March, hottest in April–May, and green and showery from June to October. Angkor sunrise circuits are best in the dry season; the green season brings lush scenery and fewer crowds.

Health and Safety

Tap water is not recommended for drinking; stick to bottled water. Angkor days are hot, so we build in shaded breaks, hats and refill stops. Our in-country desk is on call around the clock.

Vaccinations

Routine vaccines should be current. Hepatitis A and typhoid are often advised for extended travel; consult your physician or a travel clinic before departure.

Travel insurance

Comprehensive travel insurance covering medical evacuation and trip interruption is strongly recommended for private journeys.

Food and drink

Khmer cuisine is gentle and aromatic — fish amok, lok lak, Kampot pepper crab and market noodles. We note dietary preferences on every itinerary and choose reputable venues.

Public holidays

Khmer New Year (mid-April), Pchum Ben (September–October) and the Water Festival (November) close many businesses but offer superb cultural moments when planned with lead time.

Pre-departure checklist

Confirm flights, check e-visa status, pack light cotton layers covering shoulders and knees for temples, bring a hat, sunscreen and good walking sandals, and arrange the Angkor pass with us.

Frequently asked questions

Cambodia Travel Monograph: Curated Queries

Answers on bespoke private journeys, visa facilitation, customization, currency, health, and booking policies.

When is the best time of year to visit Cambodia?

November to March is the most comfortable, with cooler mornings for Angkor. April–May is hot but quiet; June to October is the green season with lush temples and fewer visitors.

Do I need a visa to enter Cambodia, and can Indochina Charm Tours assist?

Most nationalities need a visa, available as an e-visa or on arrival. We guide you through the right option for your passport as part of your proposal.

Can our itinerary and private guides be fully customized?

Yes. Every journey is FIT-tailored: hotels, pacing, guides and experiences are adjusted until your proposal matches your vision — from private Angkor sunrises to village homestays.

What currency should I bring, and are credit cards widely accepted?

Bring US dollars in small, undamaged notes; the riel is used for change. Cards work in hotels and upscale restaurants, often with a surcharge, so carry cash for markets and tips.

What health, vaccination, and food safety precautions should we take?

Drink bottled water, eat freshly cooked food, use insect repellent and consult your doctor on recommended vaccines before travel.

What is your booking deposit and cancellation policy?

A modest deposit confirms services; balance timing varies by season. Cancellation terms are stated clearly on your proposal — we prioritize transparency.
