Potential accidents because of taking selfies when traveling.

Climbing out of a high cliff to take pictures, standing in front of a moving boat... visitors can fall, get injured or lose their life more seriously.

Many accidents on the way of travel such as tourists dying when falling into Ha Long Bay, campers drowning at Ankroet waterfall, schoolgirls falling into a stream while taking pictures... have startled many tourists, because they have put themselves in similar dangerous situations.

Reading about the accident in Ha Long Bay, Le Nhung, 24, shivers at the thought of a photo of herself sailing in the Na Hang hydroelectric lake, Tuyen Quang. Nhung said at that time, because she saw many people going to the bow of the ship to take pictures, she followed suit, not wearing a life jacket. The train runs slowly and the space is less windy, and the lake surface is calm. She stood on the bow of the ship looking at her surroundings without obstructing her view.

During about 5 minutes standing at the bow of the ship, she was also afraid when she heard the engine sound and clearly felt the movements of the ship. Sometimes she thought of herself falling into the water but reassured herself because she knew how to swim since she was a baby or everyone on the boat would help. "I was too subjective and confident, not thinking about the worst. From that time, I firmly reminded myself not to put myself in danger because of a beautiful photo or a moment of sightseeing." Nhung said.

Not so lucky, Mai The Hai, 30 years old, once fell and hit a mountain when taking photos from a cliff in Meo Vac, Ha Giang in January 2021. The scar on his arm-long thigh that sometimes hurts when it's cold is a reminder to him to stay safer in future travels.

At that time, on the way through the territory of Pai Lung commune, Meo Vac district, he stopped at a cliff, where many tourists check-in with the intention of taking a photo "for life". Having stood at this cliff many times, Hai did not feel afraid, so he stepped further and stood close to the edge. Due to the cold and thin air, he became dizzy and froze his limbs and fell down. After hitting the cliff, he rolled for a while and then grabbed a small tree branch. From the edge of the rock to the place where this backpacker stops, the distance is 25 m. The rescue work took place after 15 minutes, but it was difficult because of the dangerous cliffs, there was no way. Hai was transported to a local hospital with a deep, 20cm-long tear in his thigh and a fracture in his pelvis.

Nhung admitted that she had previously heard the driver reminding her to sit in the correct position, and Hai saw the local warning sign, but they all clicked their tongues because many people had done so. "A lot of people climbed out of the cliff to take pictures, so I thought I could do it, but unfortunately had an accident. I had to pay the price for that action, just hope the adventurous tourists are careful. Behind you and family, relatives," Hai said. Later, when traveling, he reminded himself to obey warning signs.

Not only in Vietnam, but also in the world, there have been many accidents when tourists defy warnings to stand on craggy cliffs, climb waterfalls without protective gear, have fun at sea whileThere are big waves... No one can predict accidents and incidents, but before each journey, tourists should equip themselves with knowledge, anticipate hazards and control them. This is also what Mr. Nguyen Thoai Tuong, founder of Twin Tiger Survival Skills Company, shared. He said that many tourists when traveling independently have not prepared well for themselves three factors: knowledge, skills and equipment.

Tuong said the most important thing to ensure safety is to know the destination knowledge, avoiding subjective psychology. One of the ways to learn about a destination is to follow warning signs, tourist guides or actively ask people. For example, it is the peak season for sea and river tourism, before swimming, visitors should know about the depth, slope, and current.

The next important thing is to mentally prepare for accidents and learn how to overcome them. For example, to prepare to participate in river tourism, visitors need at least skills to float and stand on water. In the case of jungle, it is necessary to have map viewing skills, anti-snake, ignition... Or more simply, when you come to a strange city, you may get lost, so you need map skills. ... Or meet a person in an accident, need first aid skills.

"When it comes to survival skills, one can think of things far away that are never encountered. But in fact, ordinary travel also contains dangers, such as getting lost, sinking a boat, drowning, meeting someone in need, choking on a foreign object or even a fire," he said.

As a person who has traveled along Vietnam and shared useful information, travel blogger Vinh Bear, real name Le Viet Vinh, always thinks that his safety is the highest. If he wants to take pictures or admire the scenery, he will check whether the standing or sitting position is firm enough, the standing and sitting space is wide enough...

In addition, Vinh also follows his own principles such as restrictions. approach or lean on, hold on like the railing of a ship or boat; transparent glass in hotel balconies; away from cliffs, cliffs, and rocks. When going to the sea, river or large lake, always wear a life jacket. "Don't subjectively know how to swim because you won't know what will happen in advance, you may get cramps, currents or whirlpools... Absolutely don't play with nature," he emphasized.
