Guide to Phu Yen - the land of yellow flowers on green grass.

1. What to eat

enlightened Have breakfast with "Bánh hỏi lòng heo" - special breakfast in Phu Yen.
"Bánh hỏi" is a Vietnamese dish consisting of rice vermicelli woven into intricate bundles. The strings of noodles are usually only as thin as a toothpick and the texture is firm enough so the noodles do not fall apart. In Phu Yen, it is often serve with garlic chives sauteed in oil and  boiled pig offal and meat.

enlightened  Enjoy blood oysters and fresh sea food in O Loan Lagoon
"O Loan lagoon, O Loan lagoon
The water, the sky and the clouds
The phoenix came from the lagoons surface home
The beauty spreads all over around." (Xuan Dieu's poem)
O Loan is a lagoon of brackish water with the total natural area of about 1,570 hectares. Looking down from Quan Cau Pass, the lagoon looks like a flying phoenix - which is "O Loan" means. The fantastic beauty of O Loan lagoon is a wonderful combination of mountain and water beauty.

enlightened  Cá ngừ đại dương (Ocean Tuna)
Every year Phu Yen catches nearly 2000 tons of fishes. The fish meat is freshly red and is sliced into small slice. People can taste sliced ocean tuna meat with mustard or soya bean. At some local restaurants, visitors may also taste ocean tuna dishes with fish sauce, which is made from qualified fish and salt.

enlightened Sò huyết sào rau răm (Blood Cockle)

Phu Yen-ers usually stir and fry blood cockle with Vietnamese mint; this perfect combination makes the taste of the dish becomes surprisingly delicious for ones who have never taste it before. Stir-fried Blood Cockle with Vietnamese mint is easily made as well so if you are a big fan of Vietnamese food, you should never miss this one.

enlightened Ốc (Snail)

A special type of snail in Phu Yen is “Jumping Snail” in O Loan Lagoon. Local fishermen keep “jumping snail” on rafts and serve them to customers according to their requirements. The dish is at best when “jumping snail” are steamed with lemongrass and ginger. Vegetables and knotweed are also served with. The taste of fresh vegetables and “jumping snail” are delicious and hard to refuse.

enlightened  Banh beo (Water fern cake)

Banh beo is a thin rice cake which is topped with minced scrimps, green bean and crispy fried shallots. Eaters enjoy eating “banh beo” with sour and spicy fish sauce; this creates an amazing flavor in your mouth. This is not wrapped in leaves like other traditional cakes; instead, it is served in small bowls which fit exactly the size of “banh beo”.

enlightened Pho hai san (Seafood noodle soup)

Seafood soup is another version of Pho besides Chicken noodle soup or beef noodle soup. Together with the original and traditional taste of Pho, cooked shrimp, roasted onion ad imitation crab, this combination is incredible.

2. What to discover

(1) Visit Tam Giang Dam - One of the most beautiful dam in Central Viet Nam

(2) Visit Mang Lang Church (Eglise de Mang Lang)

The combination of Eastern and Western architecture makes Mang Lang worth a visit. The church is also home to the first book written in Vietnam’s modern Romanized script. And Catholics may want to peruse the documents about the life of Saint Andrew Phu Yen - he was beatified in March 2000 by Pope John Paul II.

(3) Da Dia Reef (Ghềnh Đá Đĩa)

This is an extremely strange natural masterpiece, resembling huge stone blocks fleshed into round and piled neatly and steadily together. The scenery here stays natural with its wild beauty and pure environment. Da Dia Reef will surely leave many unforgettable impressions and experiences for travellers who visit.

(4) The Xep Beach

Xep Beach is considered the fairy lady deep in sleep, since here still exists a long sandy beach, shining and stretching between two large mountain ranges, protruding to the sea, the beach resembles a neglected heaven with so much picturesque landscape.

3. Where to stay

Since Phu Yen is not a big city, this place has fewer hotels and hostels for travellers. But the good news is that those places are not expensive at all and they have good services and qualified rooms.

It is recommended for visitors to choose hotels in Tuy Hoa- the capital city- because most of Phu Yen beaches are not to swim and there are more things to do in the main city. There are plenty of hotel options for travellers to book, but remember to choose one that is suitable for your budget the most.

Hotels

There are two biggest 5- star hotels in Tuy Hoa: CenDeluxe Hotel and Kaya Hotel.

CenDeluxe Hotel

Located in the center of Tuy Hoa city, this hotel has so many things to offer. Travellers can easily cross the street and sit in a corner vendor to enjoy the street life in Phu Yen while eating cheap traditional food. Or they wander around the city to feel the fresh wind of the coastal city and admire the natural beauty of this place.

This hotel is fairly cheap which costs you less than 1 million Vietnam Dong per night. There are many services for customers like free wifi every room, roof-top coffee on the 17th floor, swimming pool, etc.
